BEIJING -- China Mobile, one of the country's leading telecommunication operators, on Monday reported its net profits decreased by 0.8 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020.Profits attributable to equity shareholders stood at 23.5 billion yuan (about $3.32 billion) in the first three months, the company said in a statement.Operating revenue totaled 181.3 billion yuan during the same period, down 2 percent year-on-year, of which revenue from telecom services was 168.9 billion yuan, a gain of 1.8 percent, according to the statement.By the end of March, China Mobile had 946 million mobile subscribers. Among them, the company's 4G users reached 752 million, while its 5G subscribers amounted to 31.72 million, the statement said.
Leading global coffee house chain Starbucks partnered with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation on Thursday to launch a social impact investment to create pathways out of poverty for coffee farming communities in Southwest China's Yunnan province, with a donation of about 8.16 million yuan ($1.2 million).This is the second phase of the project. Under this phase of the initiative, the Starbucks Foundation made the donation via Give2Asia to support eight villages in two poverty-stricken counties in Yunnan's Pu'er, to build eight coffee demonstration bases by 2021.Under this new initiative, about 1,400 farmers from the involved villages will be given basic equipment and other resources for coffee planting, as well as professional training, with the goal of elevating local coffee agriculture and increasing farmers' incomes.

BP Plc, the British energy giant, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Resources Chemical Innovative Materials Holdings Ltd (CRC) to enhance cooperation on purified terephthalic acid sourcing and the development of the polyester value chain, the London-headquartered company announced on Tuesday.BP is a major player in the production of PTA, with its own highly efficient proprietary technology. With current annual production capacity of 2.4 million tons, its Zhuhai plant in southern China is BP's biggest PTA production site globally. China's telecommunications corporation Huawei on Wednesday offered medical donations to Morocco to help combat COVID-19.The donations include 172,000 medical masks and an integrated system of equipment and programs for holding remote meetings, the report said.This will give the Moroccan health system remote access to improve the medical examinations, it added.

German wholesaler Metro announced on Thursday that it has completed the sale of a majority stake in Metro China to Wumei Technology Group in exchange for net cash proceeds of more than 1.5 billion euros.Wumei now holds an 80 percent stake under the new ownership structure and METRO AG holds 20 percent in Metro China. The transaction values Metro China at an enterprise value of 1.9 billion euros.
