On June 15, 2015, Mr. Zheng Wantong, Vice-Chairman of the 11th National Committee of CPPCC and President of CICPMC, met with Mr. Karl-Henrik Sundstrom, Chairman of Stora Enso in Beijing.

President Zheng first expressed his warm welcome to Mr. Karl-Henrik Sundstrom and his colleagues, and then briefly introduced the history of CICPMC and some general information about the “Multinational Corporations Leaders Roundtable(MCLR)” which has been jointly held for seven editions since 2007 by CICPMC and China Central Television (CCTV), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, United Nations Development Program, United Nations Environment Program, United Nations Industrial Development Organization and United Nations Global Compact. He also invited Mr. Karl-Henrik Sundstrom to attend the 8th MCLR to be held this year.
President Zheng expounded on the New Normal of Chinese economyduring its upgrading and transformation as well as the ensuing opportunities and challenges. He said it was very hard for Chinese economy to realize a middle and high-end development at a medium and high-speed; the traditional three factors (investment, consumption and export) that drove China’s economic development seemed a little sluggish in reconstructing China’s economy. We need some new engines to drive sustainable economic development. Now we turn to the nongovernmental and private sector; we encourage people to start their own businesses and make innovations so that the creativity of the general public can be leveraged through mechanisms and benefits.

Mr. Karl-Henrik Sundstrom fully affirmed the significant role of CICPMC in promoting cooperation between Chinese and foreign international companies and particularly introduced the progress of a major investment project of Stora Enso in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. He was satisfied with the current business development in China and was optimistic about the development prospect.
President Zheng expressed his respect and appreciation for the contributions made by Stora Enso to China’s economic construction and sustainable development through its investment in China, particularly its contribution to the development of the Beibu Gulf region and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and China’s paper-making industry.
As a leading company in the global recyclable materials industry, Stora Enso offers renewable solutions for packaging, biomaterials, wood-based products and papers. It is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, with business branches in 35 countries around the world.
