Zheng Wantong, Vice-Chairman of the 11th National Committee of CPPCC and President of CICPMC Meets with Chad Holiday, Chairman-elect of Royal Dutch Shell

On March 16, 2015, Mr. Zheng Wantong, Vice-Chairman of the 11th National Committee of CPPCC and President of CICPMC, met with Chad Holiday, Chairman-elect of Royal Dutch Shell in Beijing.

President Zheng first expressed his warm welcome to Mr. Chad Holiday and his colleagues, and briefly introduced the just concluded Third Session of the 12th NPC and CPPCC, emphasizing onthe New Normal of China’s economy in its upgrading and transformation as well as the ensuing opportunities and challenges. He also introduced the history of CICPMC and some general information about the “Multinational Corporations Leaders Roundtable (MCLR)” which has been jointly held for seven editions since 2007 by CICPMC and China Central Television (CCTV), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, United Nations Development Program, United Nations Environment Program, United Nations Industrial Development Organization and United Nations Global Compact. President Zheng invited Mr. Chad Holiday to attend the 8th MCLR to be held this year.

President Zheng expressed his admiration for Shell’s impressive achievements in the context of global economic slowdown and its contribution to China’s economic construction and sustainable development. He also expressed his hope that CICPMC and Shell could establish long-term strategic relationships in such aspects as project cooperation, cooperation with local governments, technical research and energy development seminar as well as offering advice and suggestions on China’s economic development. President Zheng stressed that at the current economic situation, China extremely needs to cooperate with major corporations like Shell, and the breadth and depth of China’s opening-up will determine China’s future.

Holiday thought highly of CICPMC’s positive role in promoting exchanges between Chinese and foreign multinational corporations and particularly introduced the current development status of Shell. He was satisfied with the business development of Shell in China and was quite optimistic with its prospect. He also fully agreed with President Zheng on cooperation between CICPMC and Shell. He said, at present, opportunities and challenges coexisted in the world’s energy industry. It was crucial for Shell to cooperate with CICPMC and with China’s energy industry at large on the basis of mutual trust and respect. Holiday also praised the proposal of Executive Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyu on the establishment of the “International Energy Special Committee” by CICPMC and Shell.

 

The two sides also exchanged views on the slump of international oil price and its influence on China and the world’s geopolitics and economy and on other issues including the development prospects of nuclear energy, coal, and new energy like solar energy and wind energy.
