From June 23 to June 27, 2010, CICPMC Principal Advisor Mr. Wang Maolin led a delegation of 12 to attend the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit and the 10th anniversary celebrations of the UN Global Compact in USA, organized by the UN Global Compact Office.
UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon participated in the opening ceremony of the Summit and delivered a speech. The Summit called for the Global Compact guidelines to be integrated into the corporate strategy, operations, value system and information disclosure, and to be even more closely combined with the United Nations development goals in order to be able to most effectively lead enterprises to change and promote the policies and practices concerning human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. Participants from enterprises, investment, government, civil society organizations, labor, academia and the United Nations as well as all leaders present had a wide range of discussion and communication on issues which most influence and accelerate corporate involvement in environment, social and corporate governance, as covered by the UN Global Compact’s ten principles, in order to work collectively to build a new era of sustainable development.
During the Summit, President Mr.Wang Maolin and Executive Vice-President Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu paid visits to UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, UN Under Secretary-General Mr.Sha Zukang, Assistant Secretary-General Mr. Tegegnework Gettu, and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Office Mr.Georg Kell. The two sides spoke very highly of the cooperation between CICPMC and the five UN agencies on having co-sponsored the annual meeting of the International CEO Roundtable of Chinese and Foreign Multinational Corporations in Beijing, and expressed the hope that the two sides will continue to carry out the effective cooperation in this regard as before.
While in USA, the delegation also called on the Chinese Ambassador to the UN Mr. Li Baodong, the Chinese Ambassador to the USA Mr. Zhang Yesui, Executive Director of Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy Mr. Charles H. Moore, Partner of PATTON BOGGS LLP Mr.Mark D. Cowan, and MetLife Global Vice-President Ms.Susan Greenwell and so on, and attended the seminar on Sino-US economical and trade cooperation co-sponsored by CICPMC and relevant chambers of commerce and industry in Miami, USA.
