On March 27th, 2010, Mr. Cheng Siwei, Honorary President and Mr. Wang Maolin, President of our council, hosted a farewell luncheon for Mr. Khalid Malik, the outgoing UN Resident Coordinator in China, and his wife at Kempinski Hotel, in Beijing, China. They expressed their sincere thanks to Mr. Malik for both the numerous work that the UN agencies under his leadership have done to assist and support China in its development and the long-time support that they have extended to our council.
Soon after he took the post in year 2003, Mr. Malik, as the special representative of UN Secretary-General Mr. Kofi Annan, attended the World Economic Development Declaration Conference which was organized that year by our council in Zhuhai, China and read the message from Mr. Annan to this conference. Afterwards, Mr. Malik and UN agencies in China supported and cooperated with us in many important activities which we organized. We are very grateful, and look forward to the continuous support from UN agencies in China as well as from Mr. Malik himself.
Mr. Malik sincerely thanked Honorary President Cheng Siwei, President Wang Maolin and our council for the strong supports which were extended to UN agencies in China and to his work.
The luncheon went on in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. The hosts and guests expressed their best wishes to each other and wished that their friendship would last forever.
Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu, our Executive Vice-President and Secretary-General, together with others, were present at the luncheon as well.
