Executive Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyu Was Invited to Attend the Reception Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Presence of United Nations System in China





On October 26, 2009, Executive Vice-President and Secretary-General Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu was invited to attend the reception co-organized by United Nations Association of China and United Nations Development Programme celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the resident of United Nations system in China and the 64th United Nations Day.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minster Mr. Wang Guangya attended the reception and made an address on behalf of the Chinese government. He thanked the United Nations for its help to the development of China over the last 30 years, and he pointed out that the global development cause was hit by the worldwide financial crisis and developing countries are facing even more severe challenges. The United Nations should play a greater role in assisting developing countries to get rid of the impacts from financial crisis as soon as possible. China has been striving to make contributions to the global development with its own one, and is willing to do its utmost continues provide assistance to other developing countries.

Mr. Khalid Malik, Coordinator of UN System in China presided over the reception and read the congratulatory message from United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon. Mr. Chen Jian, former United Nations Under-Secretary-General and President of United Nations Association of China co-presided over the reception and delivered a speech.

Former UN Secretary-General Mr. Kofi Annan also participated in the reception and delivered an excellent speech.

During the reception, Executive Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyu had a cordial conversation with Mr. Annan. He expressed his appreciation for Mr. Annan’s support to the ‘World Economic Development Declaration Conference’ held by our organization in 2003 and the issuance of  the ‘World Economic Development Declaration’, and he extended his invitation to Mr. Annan to attend the upcoming 3rd International CEO Roundtable of Chinese and Foreign Multinational Corporations on November 13-15,2009 in Beijing.
